In December 2024, Abyan Consulting, in collaboration with Save the Children, facilitated a series of Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) training sessions in Haji Khayr, Dangorayo District, Jilab, and Jiingadaha under Garowe, Puntland State of Somalia. These trainings aimed to equip local communities with essential financial skills to promote saving, lending, and economic self-reliance.
The training schedule was as follows:
• Haji Khayr: December 4th – 6th, 2024
• Jilab: December 7th – 12th, 2024
• Jiingadaha: December 13th – 15th, 2024
Throughout the sessions, participants learned the key principles of managing savings and loans within a community-based framework. These skills are crucial for fostering financial inclusion, enabling individuals to improve their economic standing, and promoting sustainable development within these regions.
The trainings were met with strong community support, with participants expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to gain knowledge that will empower them financially and socially. Abyan Consulting’s facilitation, combined with Save the Children’s project implementation, continues to drive positive change and economic empowerment in Puntland.
